Getting more glass on the Mocaamaster

After strong initial interest in the Semi Manual bracket for the Moccamaster, I’ve been inspired to keep experimenting with “automated pour over” accessories. The latest hack is a 3D printed grommet designed to hold the largest sized Hario glass dripper (size 03) in the Semi-Manual bracket.

This adaption allows you to brew a full batch (1.25 L) of coffee as well as use the original Moccamaster dripper lid—which coincidentally fits perfectly on the Hario! Additionally you can also rotate the coffee dripper a full 360º while brewing for better water dispersion, if you’re so inclined.

I’ll be launching this as another tool for hacking your Technivorm this Spring, but the next decision is selecting the final material. On one hand, 3D printed plastic (in black, not yellow) would match the machine, it’s inexpensive and scalable for a niche product. On the other hand the whole origin of this project was to cut out the plastic from the Moccamaster, and I personally feel that most 3D printed stuff is just temporary plastic garbage.

I personally love cork, so I’ll likely mock one up to see how it performs. I think it would be a nice visual contrast and it would be a good insulator for handling a hot glass dripper—but of course it’s a soft material with a lower perception of durability.

Let me know if this is a Moccamaster hack you’d be interested in, and if you have material preferences—I’m all ears.
